Laughter and links, what could be better? The 58 kids that came out to Kids' Night on Monday, July 7th at the Wynyard Golf Club would tell you that fun and golf do go hand in hand. Children ranging in age 2-10 converged on the golf course, with their parents, to learn the basic skills and etiquette of the game of golf. They played four holes of golf and got a hot dog, drink and treat, sponsored by the Kinsmen, after their round. The youngest golfers could be found on the putting green getting an introduction to the game. Volunteers supervised each group and helped the kids out on the course.
The Saskatchewan Golf Association provided much needed junior clubs to the Wynyard Golf Club for this event to ensure that even those kids without their own clubs would be able to participate.
The event was planned on the suggestion of a patron and while interest seemed high, no one predicted 58 golfers participating. The goal of getting more young people interested in the game was acheived and planning for the next Kids' Night on Monday, July 28th is underway. Tee-off will be at 5:30 and kids participating should be there by 5:15. Cost is $5 and covers golf, a hot dog and a drink. Parents are encouraged to walk around with their child. Golf Club volunteers will be with each group to give pointers on skills and etiquette. Parents are asked to please pre-register their golfer(s) by Monday, July 28th at noon with the clubhouse at (306)554-2154.
